Some good news and some bad news today. The good news is that the first strawberries have turned red. Not completely as the tips are still green, but very exciting. They should be ready either tomorrow or Monday. You shouldn’t pick them until they are fully ripe as they won’t continue to ripen once picked unlike other fruit.
I can also report the peas I planted about three weeks ago are growing very nicely. However the sweet corn that I planted on the same day hasn’t made an appearance at all. I have some sweet corn seedlings at home that I will use instead once they are big enough for planting out.
Some bad news is that slugs are attacking the courgettes. A couple of plants have been got already and the others are looking vulnerable. I’ll try some barley straw as a mulch to see if that will protect them.
